About Bamberg
Bamberg is a town in the Upper Franconia region of Bavaria in Germany. It stands on the river Regnitz, close to its confluence with the river Main. Endowed with one of Europe's largest intact old town centres, Bamberg was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1993 because of this.
As an old diocesan city, numerous Churches are to be found in Bamberg. In the 11th Century it was the centre of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation.
Bamberg enjoys a great reputation as a city of music and theatre. It is home to the world-renowned Bamberg Symphony Orchestra.
Fifteen Museums display a large variety of unique collections and some very rare objects.
Bamberg is an outstanding cultural and architectural highlight in the region and also the secret capital of beer! The city has 10 breweries - one for every 7000 members of its population. The local specialty is the smoked beer.
It is also a great city in which to relax and enjoy a great weekend, whether sightseeing, enjoying the culture and history, shopping or watching sports.

The city is located 63 km north of Nuremberg and 101 km east of Würzburg. It is easily accessible by road and rail, with regular ICE trains stopping in Bamberg. The nearest airport is in Nuremberg.
